EARLY CHILDHOOD QUARTERLY
November 2025

Lea en español | View Online

Hello families, friends, and partners,

As the days get shorter and routines shift for the holidays, this is a great time to notice how learning happens in everyday moments. Whether you’re reading together, cooking dinner, or going for a walk, your child is building skills—and you are their best teacher.

This quarter, we’re focusing on ways families can turn daily routines into rich opportunities for connection, learning, and growth.

Warmly,

Heather Olivier
Deputy Director, FACT Oregon + aRPy Ambassador, ECTA

Everyday Moments = Everyday Learning

A mother holds her young son. They are both smiling. Text reads: Practice Guides for Families, only one page, includes short videos, available in Spanish.

We don’t need special lessons or materials to help our children learn. The most powerful teaching happens through play, conversations, and routines that already fill your day.

Everyday Child and Family Activities

  • Notice what your child enjoys and build learning into those activities.

  • Use real-life moments—like putting on shoes, washing hands, or feeding the dog—as opportunities to practice new words and actions.

  • Explore the Family Practice Guide:
    English | Spanish

Parent-Provided Child Learning Opportunities

  • Learn how your child’s favorite activities—like stacking blocks, pretending to cook, or helping in the garden—can teach important developmental skills.

  • These moments strengthen family relationships and help your child feel confident and capable.

  • Explore the Family Practice Guide:

    English | Spanish

Try This At Home…

A few simple ideas families can use right away:

  • Let your child pour or stir while you cook together.

  • Sing songs during bath time or transitions.

  • Describe what’s happening (“You’re putting your shoes on—one, two!”).

  • Follow your child’s lead—let their curiosity guide your shared play.

 Save the Date!

A save the date card says the early childhood conference will be February 28, 2026. Image description: two adults and young children sit at a table with markers.
